Safe Network Regional Meeting for the East Midlands will be held on Thursday 4th July 2013 – 10:00am to 13:00pm at Nottingham CVS, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham NG1 3FB

The Safe Network, which provides information and resources to help keep children safe, is inviting colleagues from the VCS and its statutory partners to this free regional network meeting.

The meeting will provide the opportunity to:
• Explore, debate and learn about the impact of Working Together 2013 on the VCS
• Hear about next steps and developments for Safe Network and identify support needs within the VCS

The meeting is aimed at:
• Frontline children and young people’s VCS organisations,
• LSCB chairs, business managers, safeguarding managers and lay members,
• VCS reps on LSCB’s, Health and Wellbeing Boards or Children’s Partnership Boards
• Safe Network champions, Supporters and key partners including those from health, schools and leisure.

Charity Commission public meeting is being held on Wednesday 3rd July 2013 – 10:30am to 15:00pm at
Nottingham CVS, Voluntary Action Centre, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham NG1 3FB

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales, is inviting trustees, charities and charity advisers to attend its next public meeting.

Attendees will hear from the Chair of the Commission, William Shawcross, along with the Commission’s Chief Executive, Sam Younger. For the first time the Commission will also run a short surgery session to give attendees the opportunity to seek one-to-one advice from Commission staff.

The free event, including a sandwich lunch, will cover how charities can protect themselves against fraud; an overview of the soon to be published updated Public Benefit guidance; the role of the Commission, other agencies and trustees in Safeguarding beneficiaries; and the importance of submitting annual returns on time.

Melbourne Assembly Rooms

There are a lot of events coming up in June at the Melbourne Assembly Rooms:

Saturday June 15th in the daytime is a Summer Gift Fair, 10am to 1pm with over 12 great stands selling gifts for all tastes and ages.

Saturday June 15th in the evening is a ‘ Night on the Town’, starring Dave Springfield – one of the best Rod Stewart tribute’s around. There are still some tickets left (but not many) at £6, licensed bar with real ale and a super summer night out. Tickets available from the office or call 01332 865726, also from Forteys in the Market Place.

Friday June 21st is a charity opera night ‘Music for a Midsummer’s Evening’ with a host of well known arias performed by the Emporio Opera group. tickets are £25 including a 3 course supper. Tickets from the office or contact Margaret on 07990 582381, also from Forteys in the Market Place.

Friday June 28th; Noasis in concert, one of the best Oasis tribute bands around with support. Tickets £8, available from the office or call 01332 863522. Tickets selling well and going to be a rocking night.

On Saturday 8th June, 9.30am – 12.30pm, Swadlincote Adult Community Education Centre will be holding a one day course called ‘Feel Good about Yourself Colour Confidence’.

It is a personal development course that will help learners to improve their self-esteem and to have the confidence to experiment with colour when dressing.

Relate Derby will be hosting a session that will be delivered by The National Autistic Society. It will provide a general introduction to understanding ASD / Asperger’s Syndrome and aim to:

- Provide an improved understanding of ASD / AS theory
- Learn better ways to communicate
- Understand characteristics of AS

Derbyshire Mental Health Carers Training Day Thursday 20th June 2013 at South Normanton

This event will provide Carers with an opportunity

- To find out about the Mental Health Act, medicines used in mental health and the Triangle of Care from guest speakers

- Meet with other mental health carers and take advantage of a free lunch and taster pamper sessions courtesy of Derbyshire Carers Association

This event is FREE for attendees.

This is the first session of this training and it will be repeated over the next year in both the south of the county and nearer the north west of Derbyshire.
